Traian Alexandru Filip: His Art and Life
Published in Hardcover by Turner Carroll Gallery & Editions (01 November, 1997)
Average review score:

Etchings and moreThis fascinating book presents in loving detail the work of an artist who subtly commingles beauty and horror, angels and beasts. Traian Filip was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1955 and experienced the repression of the Ceausecu regime. In 1989, he arrived in New York and then settled in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where his work took on a new grace, but with an evident loneliness for his family in Romania. He took his own life in 1993. For most of his life he concentrated on intaglio etchings, later producing paintings on found materials. The book poignantly relates his personal history to his artistic production. It gives exellent renditions of many of his beautiful and intriguing etchings and paintings.

Transparent Tales: An Attic Full of Texas Ghosts
Published in Hardcover by Best of East Texas Pub (12 October, 1998)
Average review score:

WHERE ARE THE REVIEWS?Details on this book indicate 202 Amazon reviews with an average rating of 4.9; however I can find no reviews whatsoever here. This book is referenced in David Pitney's Ghosts of the Northeast and Pitney says it's a good book. Is there anyone who has read this which can offer further info for potential buyers? What haunted areas of Texas are covered? The authors are reporters for the Houston Chronicle newspaper. Are these individual hauntings within Houston and its suburbs? This book does seem rather short at just 140 pages.

Turner's Best Chicagoland Street Guide Including Suburbs and Expressways: 2002 Edition
Published in Paperback by Rand McNally & Co (July, 1999)
Average review score:

Don't drive Chicago without itI work on the road throughout Cook County, calling on clients. I use a street atlas, but this is an excellent supplement. Rather than trying to find Kedvale on a map I can look up the coordinates and find that it's 4132 west.
This pocket-sized book is easier to use in the car and I've never found an error.
Another great feature is the expressway chart. Can you exit the northbound Tri-State at Irving Park Road? No, according to the expressway chart, but you can get off at River Road.
My only complaint is that the suburban section covers only Cook County, not DuPage, Kane, or Lake.
This book is best suited to those who use Chicago city streets or Chicago area expressways and tollways.

Turner's Flight (The Will Turner Flight Logs, Vol. 2)
Published in Paperback by Lucky Press (June, 2002)
Average review score:

"Turner's Flight"--exceeded my expectations! My husband and I read "The Aviator's Apprentice," the first book in the Will Turner Flight Logs Series. We loved the style, characters, and the attention to details of planes and flight. We were incredibly surprised by "Turner's Flight," as we enjoyed it even more! My husband (who is a history and aviation buff) can't wait for Mr. Davey's next book, and I (a Midwestern soccer mom and community volunteer) can't wait for the TV series or movie.
Hollywood, are you listening? Jude Law would be perfect in the role of "Will Turner."

U2: Rattle and Hum: The Official Book of the U2 Movie: A Journey into the Heartland of Two Americans
Published in Paperback by Harmony Books (December, 1988)
Average review score:

"It's a musical journey...""U2 : Rattle and Hum : The Official Book of the U2 Movie : A Journey into the Heartland of Two Americas" is something that every U2 collector should have on the shelf and a book that U2 fans and music aficionados in general will enjoy. The book chronicles the making of "Rattle and Hum" from the whys of making the film to the live finale at Sun Devil Stadium.
The book takes you behind the scenes of shooting the film, telling of the challenges of making a film unlike any other previous release. It also introduces you to the principle players, both in front of and behind the camera. It discusses the band's influences and gives the stories behind various scenes.
For people who could care less about the making of "Rattle and Hum" and just want to ogle the band, this book will give you plenty to drool over. There are quite a few photos from the shoots with Anton Corbijn, as well as live shots of U2, some which have been distributed widely on the internet, some which you will see for the first time in the book. All of the photos are very beautiful and make this book a great candidate for the coffee table (which is where one of my two copies is)...It's a musical journey." Indeed!

Great readI usually go for romances like Rogers, Lindsey and one of my latest reads, "Anything, My Love" by Cynthia Simmons. This book was a little different, but I enjoyed it. This book is fun, sweet and sexy.

Vegetarian Nutrition
Published in Hardcover by CRC Press (21 March, 2001)
Average review score:

Excellent literature reviewMost vegetarian advocates are prone to selective citation of the scientific literature, quoting those studies that support their ethical beliefs, but omitting mention of the science that is contradictory. Sabate's Vegetarian Nutrition does not do this, and is a fair review of the literature. Each area of concern is addressed with a complete review. Does eating meat cause disease or do other factors in the vegetarian lifestyle than abstention from meat confer health protection? Are vegetarians and vegans at greater risk for nutritional deficiencies? Sabate explores these and other questions with thoroughness and integrity.
